About Yes! You Can Buy American

Three years ago I became obsessed with the idea of opening a retail store that would sell only products made in America. I enrolled in a SCORE class to learn about small business, and got so far a choosing a name, the American Made Trading Company. For every product we stocked, we'd post a photo and a blurb about the manufacturer to let our customers know a little more about the item and hit home that there were real, everyday Americans out there making these products. But economic reality eventually shelved the dream for some future date after I hit the proverbial lottery jackpot. It would take a lot of money to open a store, which wouldn't likely turn a profit for years, if ever.

Over the past couple of years, I've bought American-made goods whenever I've had an option and shopped around on the internet for U.S. products when I couldn't find them in stores. When the made in China recalls started pouring in this year, I began compiling a list of U.S. manufacturers and their web sites. And then the idea struck, why not write up the blurbs that I had once envisioned for the American Made Trading Company? I could compile them in a book and market it so other conscientious shoppers wouldn't have to do all the legwork. And that's how YES! YOU CAN BUY AMERICAN was born.
